What is Express Entry?

  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): Tailored for skilled tradespeople with qualifications in specific occupations.

  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC): For those with work experience in Canada who wish to transition to permanent residency.


How Does Express Entry Work?

  • Create an Express Entry Profile: Eligible candidates must first create an online profile in the Express Entry system. The profile includes information about your work experience, education, language proficiency, and other details.

  • Receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score: Based on the information provided in your profile, you will receive a CRS score. This score is used to rank candidates against others in the pool.

  • Enter the Express Entry Pool: Once your profile is submitted, you will enter the Express Entry pool, where you will be ranked based on your CRS score.

  • Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA): Periodically, IRCC conducts draws from the pool, issuing Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates with the highest CRS scores. If you receive an ITA, you can then apply for permanent residency.

  • Submit Your Application: After receiving an ITA, you must submit a complete application for permanent residency within 60 days. This application includes supporting documents such as police certificates, medical exams, and proof of funds.

  • Application Processing: IRCC processes your application, and if approved, you will receive your permanent residency status.

 

Key Factors in the Express Entry System
Several factors influence your CRS score and overall eligibility for Express Entry:

  • Age: Points are awarded based on your age, with younger candidates typically receiving higher scores.

  • Education: Higher levels of education can increase your CRS score.

  • Language Proficiency: Demonstrating proficiency in English or French through standardized tests (e.g., IELTS, CELPIP, TEF) can boost your score.

  • Work Experience: Relevant work experience, both in Canada and abroad, contributes to your CRS score.

  • Adaptability: Points can be awarded for factors such as Canadian work experience, Canadian educational credentials, and having a valid job offer.
